Position Overview
The Board Governance Assistant will support the Manager, Board Governance, in ensuring the integrity and compliance of IGNITE's governance framework. The Board Governance Assistant responsible for supporting the effective governance of the organization by assisting with the election and ongoing education for the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing administrative support for the annual board election process, including proactively building applicant pipelines, campaign oversight, and voting coordination.
- Coordinating forums and events for board-student interaction.
- Assisting with governance training and continuous learning opportunities for board directors.
- Assisting with board member orientation and onboarding.
Recruitment of Candidates:
- Support the Chief Returning Officer to develop and implement strategies to encourage a diverse range of students to run in the IGNITE election.
- Conduct outreach programs, including informational sessions, events, and presentations to educate students about the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors position.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and current student leaders to identify potential candidates and encourage them to participate in the election.
- Organize campus-wide events and campaigns to promote the election and highlight the significance of IGNITE student government.
- Distribute promotional materials such as flyers and emails to raise awareness about the upcoming elections and the importance of student participation.
- Provide guidance and support to potential candidates throughout the nomination process, including assistance with completing application forms and understanding election rules.
Campaign Management:
- Monitor and enforce campaign rules and regulations
- Provide guidance and support to candidates on effective and fair campaigning practices.
- Support the Chief Returning Officer to address and resolve any campaign-related complaints or violations.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following key competencies:
- Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong project management, priority setting, organization, and attention to detail
- Detail-oriented, able to handle confidential information, and comfortable working with senior leadership.
- Ability to think strategically, formulate and execute plans to meet organizational goals
- Demonstrated experience applying excellent judgment in dealing with sensitive and confidential governance matters.
Qualifications
- Must either be a current Humber ITAL or the University of Guelph-Humber fee paying student at the time of application.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend availability
- Ability to travel to all main campuses for election recruitment events and voting week activities.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
