Description

PURPOSE

Our goal is to serve the students, making their lives the best they can be while they are studying. The intended purpose of the APR initiative is to ensure there is a healthy relationship between the students, faculty, and IGNITE here at Humber to build better collaboration and satisfaction within both the programs and their environments.

By having APR programs within Humber, we are relating it back our yearly advocacy initiative: Student Representation where students have the opportunity to amplify their voice and collectively make the changes needed to better their post-secondary journeys. IGNITE prides itself in ensuring student success and representation, which is why we work closely alongside faculties and programs to guarantee student wellness and promote open door policies within programs and build stronger relationships amongst all those involved within a given program.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Students chosen to participate in the Humber APR program are required to provide a consistent, thoughtful, and researched student voice amongst their designated programs. An APR program revolves around unbiased gathering, analyzing, and representing student concerns and issues.

By meeting with the program dean, students are required to gather and provide feedback to and from the general student population in a clear and interactive way. This may be achieved by talking to students, making friends, providing surveys, interactive gatherings, and most importantly, making change.

TERM DURATION
The duration of an APR commences at the beginning of a fall semester and ends towards the final days of the winter/spring semester.

REQUIREMENTS

Students looking to apply for a Humber APR position must be a full-time student with a full course load for both upcoming semesters, have a good academic setting while acquiring a minimum average of 75%. Additionally, students must have the time available to participate in all required meetings and discussions.

Students in this position are also required to be enrolled in the Humber Music program

PARTICIPANTS

Each program interested in having their own APR is recommended two students per academic year but may vary depending on the size and need of each program and their requirements.

SELECTION PROCESS
The APR position currently operates under a nomination and election process.Any student interested in becoming an APR has two weeks from the initial job posting date to submit their name to their program coordinator and afterwards, if all requirements are met, participate in a small election if there are more than two nominees per program.

The election is conducted via a survey, so students who do not feel comfortable raising their hands may still have a chance to participate and vote for a suitable candidate of their choice. In the circumstance where no student wants to be nominated, the program coordinator/dean will put forward the name of a student that they feel would derive value from the role as a developmental opportunity and an interview will take place.

POST SELECTION PROCESS

Once the students have been selected and voted in as APR’s, students will learn more about their positions and be trained to effectively convey information and amplify student voice within their programs.
Students will be provided with tasks to fulfill during the semester, be provided with a training guide, and be guided on how to complete a transition report at the end of their term. Students will then be entrusted to their respective program coordinators/deans for the rest of the academic year where they will receive further guidance and instructions. APR’s may occasionally be checked on and updated to ensure that all is running smoothly and effectively.

INCENTIVE/HONORARIUM

Within this position, students are currently eligible for $500 honorarium provided by IGNITE for the full completion of their term, included with consistent feedback, communication, and healthy relationships with the students and faculty amongst their program and campus, followed by a transition report at the end of their term.

Money will be distributed to students at the end of their term in the spring semester.
After the completion of their transition report
